Course Overview: This is an MCA approved theoretical & practical training course that gives a basic understanding of Shipboard operations on Deck. The Course is in collaboration with the City of Glasgow, required by all deck ratings wishing to progress to the rank of Able-Bodied Seaman. It’s also a mandatory requirement for the issue of an Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency at UK.

What you will learn:

The course will cover;

  • Shipboard organisation, parts of a vessel, deck equipment, lookout reporting, helm orders, anchoring and mooring arrangements
  • Pilot ladders, gangways, access points
  • Cargo – Hatch covers, derricks and cranes, blocks and tackles, containers and securing arrangements etc
  • Safety – COSWOP, IMO safety signs, enclosed spaces, fire extinguishers, lifeboat and life raft launching
  • Seamanship – Rope types and construction, knots, bends and hitches, rigging a boson’s chair and stage, rope and wire splicing, whipping and seizing, parcelling and serving

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from a recognized Board with Science, Mathematics as subjects and with minimum 40% marks in English language.
  • Pass in 2-Year I.T.I. course from Govt. Approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% marks in English at 10th or Diploma Exam.

Duration:  4 Months

Age Limit: 18-25

Medical Standard:

  • Candidates should be Physically Fit for Sea Service under MCA norms.
  • Eyesight 6/6 without any external aids.
  • No Colour Blindness

Batch Commencement Date: January / July / December.

Placement: Placement is Provided by the Institute.
